THE SUN

                                 SUN
The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar - system, 'The HEART of our Solar - system'. It is a yellow dwarf star. The Sun
gives life to the Earth and the Earth would have no life at all without the energy it receives from the Sun.

WHAT IS THE SUN MADE OF?
All stars are made out of gas and plasma. The Sun consists mostly of hydrogen and
helium. It also has some carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and small amounts of other gases.
In the center of Sun, there is a process called Nuclear Fusion. During nuclear fusion, hydrogen atoms become helium. That means that the hydrogen is slowly being turned into helium.

WHAT TYPE OF STAR IS IT?
Astronauts classify stars based on the In this system, stars are assigned a letter: O, B,
A, F, G, K or M. Stars are grouped into these classes based on their color and / or temperature. The Sun is a class G star.
Morgan - Keenan system.

HOW BIG IS THE SUN?
Compared to other stars the sun is medium - sized. It has a radius of 432,450 miles. You could fit about 1 million Earths inside it.

TEMPERATURE OF THE SUN
It gets even hotter on the inside. At it's core, 27 MILLION degrees Fahrenheit. The nuclear fusion that happens inside of a star releases lots and lots of energy. This energy releases as heat and is what makes star so hot.
it can reach

THE STRUCTURE OF SUN CONTAINS FOLLOWING LAYERS:
CORE: The innermost 20 - 25% of the sun's radius, where temperature and pressure are sufficiant for nuclear fusion to occur.
RADIATIVE ZONE: In which energy transfer occurs by means of radiation(Photons) rather than by convection.
TACHOCLINE: The boundary region between the radiative zone and Convective zone.
CONVECTIVE ZONE: The 70% of sun's radius
PHOTOSPHERE: The deepest part of the sun.
ATMOSPHERE: A gasius 'halo' surrounding the sun, comprising the Chromosphere, ,solar transition region, carona and heliosphere. This can be seen during a Solar eclipse.
